In August 2000, Andy and Gill lost their beautiful twin daughters at 36 weeks due to acute twin to twin transfusion syndrome. A truly devastating experience but as a way of dealing with the loss they decided to hold a fundraiser in their girls memory in aid of Simpsons Special Care Babies. One of the hardest things about losing a baby is there are so few memories so by holding the fundraiser, memories were created and also helped raise funds to help this excellent charity.
In 2001, a rock night was held at the Corn Exchange in Haddington and, through this, a raffle and an auction, £8,400 was raised and was put towards the purchase of an EEG machine (brain scan) for use on premature babies in the neonatal unit.
The first "Rockin' for Tots" event was held at The Exchange in Grove Street, Edinburgh in 2005, and again, through a rock night, raffle and auction, £6,500 was raised also going to Simpsons, this time going towards a CPAP ventilator.
After a few other smaller events, Rockin' for Tots became a registered charity in Scotland (Charity Reg No SC045422) in February 2015.
If we can help with the survival of even one baby then we have done what we set out to do. To-date, we have helped raise over £35,000 to help with the purchase of vital equipment for the special care unit at Simpsons and other units across Scotland.
Many thanks go out to everyone who has helped raise these funds and hope you will continue to support Rockin' for Tots in the future.
